The Atlantic Hurricane season has only just begun and experts report there’s a good chance a tropical storm will hit south Florida this weekend. The American Red Cross is getting ready to respond if necessary and urges everyone who lives in the region to make their storm preparations now.
Tropical storm watches are out for Central and South Florida and the Keys, which could get as much as 12 inches of rain, leading to possible flash flooding. The greatest risk for flooding will be inland. Should the system gain tropical storm strength, it will be named Tropical Storm Alex.
HOW TO GET READY Follow these steps to help make sure your family is ready to either evacuate or hunker down if a storm threatens your community.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs until November 30. This will be another very active one, according to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), their forecast calling for 14 to 21 named storms, of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes, including 3 to 6 major hurricanes with winds of 111 mph or higher.
